28-year-old Kimberly Greer, of Long Island, died Thursday evening around 7:30 p.m. from injuries resulting from a bus crash. Authorities announced the accident occurred at the intersection of Centre St. and Leonard St., the driver of the bus, 50-year-old Xi Chen, of New York, made a left turn off of Centre St. onto Leonard St.
Passengers have exclaimed they had known they hit something but did not realize something was terribly wrong until Chen had returned to the bus in full panic. It was reported that passengers also stated that Chen was running 15 to 20 minutes late prior to the accident.
Police and paramedics rushed to the scene to assess the situation and to assist the victim. Greer was rushed by ambulance to NY Presbyterian-Downtown Hospital, overcome by her injuries she was tragically announced dead later that evening. Chen has been charged with failure to yield the pedestrian right of way due to this accident. There have been no other reported injuries resulting in this accident.
